EDLD 5366 - Week 5 Reflection

Self-Assessment

“Products of a standardized system”-- I’ve learned that allowing students to reflect on their learning is almost as important as any standardized test. If we implement self-learned reflections and allow students to communicate their learning their way, they are more comfortable to share their learning. Some students may struggle with words and therefore their illustrations can express their learning through drawings. (Reflection in the Classroom – Gerstein)

Learn as a Learner

Most of this was not based on communication, but rather self-information.  However, to reinforce the learning I would reflect on my own experiences and try to relate them to my every-day reality.
I learned much by the DOING of it all. My teammates always kept me on the right track.
They also helped me on the timeliness of my productivity.  Fortunately, I was teamed with very motivational individuals.  I didn’t want to be left out, so collaboration, expectations, and team goals allowed us to produce a great product.  I wasn’t stressed with last minute tasks.

Lifelong Learning Skills

In conjunction with our Internship Plan, it has put me in Project Management mode to accomplish projects and communicate with others for clarity purposes.
I feel it’s odd that I have communicated with people in other states better than I have communicated with people in my own school building.  I believe having central resources of information, and a place where team members can provide feedback.
It’s about being a transitional learner.  I can understand how students can be exhausted from taking tests and not being able to communicate their learning.  I hope whatever I can learn, I can constantly reflect upon.  It’s difficult to remember some experiences, and some I wish to forget, but I must put down the lesson of the experience.

Implementing the Use of Websites into a PK-12 Classroom

We are constantly using websites to engage students in learning, being informative to them, as well communicating with parents.  The majority of the websites we used are geared around Web 2.0 tools.  There are also educational websites whether they are lesson based, or we’ve purchased intervention type of package that includes assessments as well as data gathering.  Students are comfortable with the usage of website as they know the internet-connect computer is a major tool to finding what they need.
